We Will Never Forget | #25 - Live Sporting Event

25. Attend a live sporting event - DONE 9/11/14

BYU football game with the fam! We got tickets because my brother is in the military and they were doing military things for 9/11. Throughout the game, they played messages from soldiers stationed overseas. They also brought out a a HUGE flag at the beginning and it covered the whole football field. Biggest flag I've ever seen.

We actually had pretty good seats (once the sun went down). We were pretty close to the field and it was cool to be around all the other people with family overseas. Different groups of people would cheer when their soldier showed up. We all cheered when Mike's video showed up, and ended up not hearing what he said! Luckily we got a copy later to listen to. Haha :)

I like going to live sporting events because even if you don't care about the teams, the energy is catching. And ever since I learned the basics of football (downs and whatnot), football is more exciting to me. It's always nice to have an idea of what's going on :) At halftime, our side of the stadium was part of a card stunt (I think they called it something like that). Best part - we helped make up the "N"!! Cute :)

While I honestly don't remember who won and I don't really care (I think BYU did though), it was a sobering experience to be in a huge group of people all remembering the attacks on 9/11. It's a different kind of energy, and you all feel connected. When 9/11 happened I was in third grade. I remember my dad listening to the radio in the morning, my bus driver listening to the radio on the way to school, and later watching the news on TV at school. I don't think I fully understood what was going on, except that something bad had happened and all the adults were very sad and shocked.

Thinking about it now and watching footage makes me feel sad and shocked as well. Yet at the same time, I think of the people who sacrificed to help others in that tragic event and I feel hope. While there are so many crazy things going on in the world, there are people who will do what they can to serve those around them. I hope I can be one of those people in any situation.
