Decemberists and Dinner | #99 - Denny's

99. Denny's at midnight - DONE 5/27/15

This list item came about because I wanted to fit in, and I love breakfast food at any hour of the day. I felt like everyone I knew had been to Denny's at midnight. From stories I was told, this usually happened because of late night talks while wanting food or wanting to go to a sit-down place to eat after a big evening event. My late night food adventures usually consisted of going to the Del Taco drive-thru for churros.

I wanted a late night Denny's story too! And now I have one. I think it's a pretty good one too. At least the long version is. It's where I also get to tell about an awesome concert experience.

It all starts with a super cute husband. He likes the Decemberists but had never been to one of their concerts. They were coming to Salt Lake. I decided to surprise him with tickets for his birthday! (He later claimed that he was not surprised when he opened them, but I don't know how in the WORLD he could have figured it out. I was trying my darndest to be sneaky.)

I had only heard a few of their songs, so I spent the months preceding the concert listening to nearly every album they have. (I probably like them more than Jonathan now.) We also found out that our good friends Sara and Garrett were going as well and ended up carpooling with them. It was at an outdoor venue in Salt Lake called Red Butte Garden. I had been there about a year earlier going to an Avett Brothers concert.

 The concert was awesome!! Jonathan and I were up near the front almost the whole time. (The only downside is all the drunk people waving their drinks around. Alcohol smells SO bad.) The Decemberists are just as good, if not better, live. It was cool to hear stories and background for some of the songs too. For their encore, they did "The Mariner's Revenge Song" which was AMAZING. They had a huge whale that ate the band members and we all screamed like we were being eaten too. So fun :)

After the concert we were all hungry and, even though it was late, everyone was cool with Denny's. We got a table pretty quick and I got a couple pictures - but I forgot to take a picture of my food. I think I got some kind of fancy pancakes. I wanted to order something I normally wouldn't get, to add to the adventure. But I know it was good and that we all enjoyed ourselves :)

I've been writing this off and on for like 3 weeks and while I realize I only have one paragraph about Denny's, I finally found the pictures from this! So I'm going to finish this and move on to the next post. I only have 2 weeks left until my list is over!
